There are two things that I love and feel privileged to capture at weddings more than anything: real emotion, and all the laughter – and Chelsea and Julian’s White Owl Barn wedding reminded me of just how wonderful it is to witness those two things in action. From the moment I met with them to plan out my part in their day, I got an immediate, strong vibe of genuine connection and affectionate humour between them. As it turns out, that same vibe was instantaneous all the way back in 2013, and was very quickly fuelled by the coffees Julian started bringing Chelsea during her shifts at the gas station where she was working, and where they first met. And when you’re almost 6 years in and not only have grown together and supported each other as individuals and as a couple, but still feel like you’re in the honeymoon phase? That’s when you know you’ve got something truly long-lasting and golden – much like their location of choice, the White Owl Barn! The beautiful building itself is over 100 years old and has been meticulously restored from its original structure to showcase every inch of its authenticity and charm. Chelsea and Julian dressed it perfectly too, coupling the rustic vibe with fresh, elegant touches and magical lighting – but it was the incredible sincerity and happiness, so tangible throughout the day, that really filled the space and made it come alive. The fun spilled out across the grounds with the wedding party challenging each other at everything from giant jenga to a bean bag toss (with the real games, of course, beginning when everyone moved from the fields and took to the dance floor!). I think my favourite part though was how the barn’s fields enveloped Chelsea and Julian to give the warmest, most intimate surrounding for some absolutely stunning sunset photos.

Chelsea and Julian’s White Owl Barn wedding was a total hoot (you bet I’ve been waiting to use that pun!), and I can’t thank them enough for the opportunity to capture a couple who are a celebration of everything that makes my job a joy.

Special thanks to my 2nd photographer, Jon Thorpe for all his hard work.
