Hatzic Lake Wedding by Clint Bargen Photography

Let me tell you about this lovely DIY wedding I photographed recently. It was Katrina and Tomas’ big day at a lovely spot right by the water on Hatzic Lake near Mission, BC. Yep, it was a Hatzic Lake wedding, quite picturesque, I must say. The ceremony was beautiful, with Hatzic Lake providing a serene backdrop. I captured some heartfelt moments between the couple. There was so much emotion and joy as they exchanged vows, it was a real honour.

Katrina and Tomas are both hardworking professionals, training to become physicians. They had to deal with being apart for months due to work commitments, so coming together for this celebration was truly special. They share their life with their dog Ruckle, described by Katrina as a mix of a dog and a horse, but I would consider Ruckle their child. He was a bit too rambunctious to be at the wedding, but he made a special appearance the next day.

I had this idea to take some photos of them in a canoe on Hatzic Lake. So nearing sunset we ventured out awkwardly onto the smooth as glass lake. Despite my lack of skill with a paddle, they turned out to be some of my favourite images of the whole day! This may seem strange coming from a photographer, but one thing I loved about this wedding is that it really wasn’t about the photos at all. The day, and really the whole weekend was designed to celebrate family and friends. So many of their friends brought tents and campers so they could stay overnight and party late into the night. Since it was Canada Day long weekend, there was also an abundance of fireworks to top it all off! A truly memorable weekend with everyone pitching in to help make this DIY wedding a real success.

So, here’s to Katrina and Tomas, but also to their friends, I wish them all a happy life together. The Hatzic Lake wedding was really something special, and I’m glad I could be there to capture their memories. Congratulations to the couple!
