Framed by a cascade of woven greenery, a bride elegantly silhouetted by the lines of her white dress officially seals the deal with a picture perfect kiss. This is not the way Alex saw things going when she first met Matt. “He was asking a ton of ridiculous questions and all I remember thinking was, ‘Who is this guy?’ He drove me absolutely nuts,” Alex said, describing her first impression of Matt when they were both fresh new faces in the UBC Okanagan dorms. Not long after, Alex started to experience problems with her computer. Matt was nearby, and an engineer, so she asked for a favor. “Naturally, I paid him in food to fix my laptop.” Alex explained. “And as he would fix my laptop, we would chat, eventually leading us to being more than friends.”
Just a few years later, the two stood exchanging vows so that they may be joined in marriage. Exposed wood created interest in the ceiling arched high above them. Windows allowed natural light to stream in around them, giving the event a bright and airy glow. Every detail of the ceremony – from the lanterns lining the aisle, to the design of the guest’s chairs, to the cut of the wedding dress – fit together harmoniously. After the bride and groom said ‘I do,’ the warehouse serving as a ceremony venue transitioned into reception mode. Green and white florals kept the theme coherent from ceremony to reception, and added life to the warehouse without clashing with the clean, modern feel inherent to the big, open space. Bits of wood – the cake stand, a sign or two, the coasters – lent a rustic element to the occasion, echoing the ceiling and tying everything together.Speeches were accompanied by a delightful spread and followed up by the cutting of a cake decorated simply in white and delicate vines of green, the colors of the day. All eventually gave way to the truest form of celebration – dance! Thanks to the expert work of wedding coordinators, Chelsey and Dene from Best Day Ever Creative Events, the day had flowed seamlessly, allowing bride, groom, and guests to really let loose. The road to their wedding day wasn’t completely free of bumps, however. While strolling down Crescent beach, Matt mentioned to Alex that he had bought a new tag for Lucy. Of course, Alex would want to take a look at this new tag, just to make sure no terrible choices had been made, and this is where the plan took a bit of an unexpected turn. “As I attempted to check, Lucy caught whiff of a good scent, apparently, and started taking off,” said Alex, who was then forced to chase after the dog. Matt, who had gotten down on one knee in preparation for the big dog-tag reveal, had to keep up while also being ready to get back down on one knee as soon as they caught the little rascal. “I’m assuming the sight of Matt chasing me chasing Lucy must’ve been quite hysterical for the tourists, as I began to notice a few people watching and laughing,” Alex said. “I finally caught up to her and her new tag was more than cute – it said ‘Will you marry me?’ The easiest ‘yes’ I’ve ever answered.” Obviously, Lucy was a guest of honour at the wedding and refrained from causing any more major mishaps. Thanks for having me out to party!!!
