Crystal and Jody were married September 10th 2016. The ceremony and reception were held at the Heritage Hall located in the heart of Vancouver and effectively making me a Heritage Hall Wedding photographer. Crystal and her mother Lila had spent the last year looking for the most wonderful 1920’s themed decorations and this was truly the most detailed oriented wedding I have ever had the pleasure of photographing! Hand-painted fine bone china tea cups, a “Navy Cut” pack of Player’s cigarettes, ornate pearl necklaces and glass perfume bottles with lacy pumps were some of the decorations lovingly made up the room’s décor. The venue chosen matched their theme; after all, Heritage Hall has been a part of Vancouver since the early 20th century!

In contrast, her Bridesmaids wore dark red floor length gowns, each with a colourful brooch pinned in the middle. Jody, who was also at the hotel preparing for the day with his Groomsmen, opted for a dark green suit. A golden pocket watch completed his look. Rather than traditional limos from hotel to wedding site, Crystal arrived in a luxurious brown and beige Packard Eight that had red rims on the tires.

Instead of using a spoon to tap on a glass, Crystal and Jody created a more interactive and engaging way to get their family and friends to ask for a kiss. Cleverly entitled “Kissing Games”, some of the games included “The Serenade”, where tables were invited to burst out into love songs or “The Entertainer”, which involved good and bad dance moves! By far the best game played was “Kissing the Cod”.heritage_hall_wedding_photographer_vancouver_wedding_photographer_clint_bargen018heritage_hall_wedding_photographer_vancouver_wedding_photographer_clint_bargen019heritage_hall_wedding_photographer_vancouver_wedding_photographer_clint_bargen020heritage_hall_wedding_photographer_vancouver_wedding_photographer_clint_bargen021Jody’s family are Newfoundlanders, and in Newfoundland there is a ceremony performed that is used for new comers to the Island. Jody’s mother invited Crystal and her family to participate in this age-old tradition. For the ceremony to be valid, a Newfoundlander must be present – that was Jody. Crystal, as the newcomer, was asked to wear a yellow fisherman’s rain cap, give a kiss to a Cod and then take a shot of a Newfoundland rum known as a Screech. Lastly, she must be asked: “Are you a Screecher?” and reply, “Yes indeed, my friend, may your big sail draw wind!” Once all these steps have been completed, she can then be presented with a Royal Order of Newfoundland Screechers, symbolizing Crystal as a proud honorary Newfoundlander.heritage_hall_wedding_photographer_vancouver_wedding_photographer_clint_bargen022heritage_hall_wedding_photographer_vancouver_wedding_photographer_clint_bargen023heritage_hall_wedding_photographer_vancouver_wedding_photographer_clint_bargen024chilliwack_farm_wedding_rustic_vintage_chic_west_vancouver_wedding_photographer_clint_bargen_first_nations_wedding_0059heritage_hall_wedding_photographer_vancouver_wedding_photographer_clint_bargen025By the end of the night, Crystal changed into a black flapper dress with matching head piece and hit the dance floor with Jody and their loved ones. Their affair was incredibly fun, lively and amazing. Thank you Crystal and Jody for allowing me to a part of the day!
